Biography
Hello my name is Dawn Melka I am an artist now living in the mid west, I love painting, drawing and creating art of all kind. My main interest is painting horses, dogs and everyday objects. For the most part I paint in acrylics but recently have started to play around with oils. A few years ago I discovered polymer clay and love making mosaics and plaques, from time to time I even offer these for sale.
For me this is a second career, after going to art school many many years ago ( not telling ) I realized I needed to pay the bills and was very lucky when I was offered a job in a picture framing shop. I loved this so much that I remained in that industry for over 25 years. Many of those years I owned and operated my own shop complete with gallery. A move to the pacific northwest changed many things for me, I remained involved with the picture framing industry but also got involved with horses and shortly after that decided to pick up a paint brush. Well I have not looked back.
A friend once asked me where I thought I would be in my art career if I had stayed with it all those years ago. I thought about that for a bit and realized I am exactly where I should be. When I started to paint this time around I was doing it for me, not worrying about what others thought of my art. As a result I loosened up and explored color much more freely, well a wonderful thing happened, others loved what I was doing and commissions started coming in. I love what I do I love where I am at with my art and I look forward to growing, changing and branching out.
I live with my husband, two dogs and three horses, that number can change at any time, the dogs and horses not the husband, on a small ranch in Missouri. I have included a page about the ranch with pictures for anyone interested. I also have a couple of blogs one about art, its my solution to a newsletter, it’s a place I can quickly and easily update and change and it’s a place I offer information about individual pieces. Anyone wanting a little more insight to my life you can visit my life blog, hopefully it will entertain you and not scare you away. What can I say its who I am!
I want to mention one more thing, I want to thank my family and friends who have supported me over the years in what ever I chose to do, with out all of you I would not be who I am . And my husband of 21 years what can I say, thank you, I love you and you are my joy!
