BDR has undergone many changes over the years but the most drastic was a move from Oregon to Missouri. The “ranch” is really just a name a place that we happen to be. When I first started to develop a web site I needed a name. At the time I did not want to use my name, I have since changed that, but anyway, I was sitting at the computer jotting down ideas when I realized I was constantly yelling at the dogs to be quiet. Well my husband had starting calling our place BDR because well you guessed it, the dogs were always barking. I thought why not, I called my web site Barking Dog Studio and even though it put a smile on most peoples faces it also confused many as to what I did. Most thought I only painted dogs when in fact that is just a small part of what I do. So I have changed my web site to Dawn Melka Fine Art but I remain at the Barking Dog Ranch and most work gets done in the Barking Dog Studio. So you see its just a place where it all happens.
Horses play a major role in our lives as do our dogs. When we moved we were so lucky to find our dream home. The house is about 100 years old, It sits on 33 acres that has it all, woods, rolling fields, places to make trails, a horse barn, pond, and best of all a real studio. This is the first time I have had a place to work out side of my home yet still at my home. Its just a short walk and I am in a whole new place. Welcome!
Barking Dog Ranch
Lucy, better know as the queen. She is the bos dog around here and please don't forget it thank you very much!
Bill, what can I say about Bill, what was I thinking? No really he's awesome I just wish he would take a brake!!
Joe this is Joel’s first horse, we traded Rene’ for him and he has proven to be our best horse yet
Quincy, he’s my boy but I would need to write a book to explain this horse!!!!!
Dylan, we bought him so Joel could learn to jump, he can no longer do that but just the same he is awesome. If you ask him right you get it!
Gone but not forgotton
Cody, my first horse. We had to retire him shortly after we got him. He was sixteen but a year later he turned 30, they saw me coming. We had him for ten years and I would not have traded him for the world
Eddy (picture coming soon). He was Joel and my first dog and we still talk about him. Probably the most magnificent animal I have ever had.
Ricky, my most loyal, he used to go riding with me and Quincy, he used to follow me everywhere. Joel swears he yelled at that dog more than all of them combined but truly he was my best friend.
